Two reminders of faithfulness
Written by Brian Jennings, Posted in Blog, Your World
The eastern sky was God’s canvas last Sunday morning. Breathtaking. As I pulled into the church parking lot, I even met a local photographer who decided that our lot was the perfect place for his tripod and camera.
I was reminded: The sun keeps coming up. Every. Single. Day.
“Your love, O LORD, reaches to the heavens, your faithfulness to the skies. Your righteousness is like the mighty mountains, your justice like the great deep. O LORD, you preserve both man and beast” (Psalm 36:5-6).
I can be inconsistent, uneven and flighty. But God’s steady hand of love continues to reach towards me.
Still marveling at the sight of the sunrise, I opened the doors and bounded up the stairs, where I was reminded of faithfulness again.
The picture won’t win any awards, but the sight of food filled me with thankfulness. Our church is full of generous people. Few are wealthy, at least by the standards of our country, but their faithful giving never ceases to amaze me.
Our 2:20 Center team befriends, prays with, and provides food for our neighbors in need. And many of our church folks bring food items to donate. Every. Single. Week.
The people’s faithfulness turns the local grocery store into a place of worship. As families purchase extra items to give, they worship the Creator of life, the One who cares for all people.
How have you been reminded of the faithfulness of God and His people?
Thanks, Brian! I am reminded of God’s faithfulness when things happen that can be explained by no other means than His providence. I had two things happen this past week that made me feel like someone was praying for me. Things that just don’t ordinarily happen bounced right into my court! One of the challenges I face is to remain steadfast in my faith even when His providence does not seem all bright and shiny. In Sunday School this past week we studied Acts 27. Paul could easily have said that God’s providence seemed distant. Yet he understood that he was headed to Rome and God was going to get him there for God’s purposes and in His way. Paul ministered in the midst of the storm.
