Ridiculous False Gods

Psalm 106:20-21 mocks the Israelites for worshipping a ridiculous false god.
“They exchanged their Glory for an image of a bull, which eats grass.”
I love that the Psalmist includes that last phrase. He is mocking their idol, as if to say, “How awesome can a god be, if it eats grass all day?”
It is easy for us to conclude that they had chosen a ridiculous false god to worship, while ignoring our own. But what if we transported ourselves to a land far away, a thousand years from now? What would we say of the false gods in our land?
What would we say about the god of food, which leads to all sorts of health, image and financial problems?
What would we say about the god of silly games (aka sports), which captures our thoughts, money, time, families and passions?
What would we say about the god of TV, which turns the focus of families away from each other and towards a device (which seemingly produces laziness, greed and immorality)?
What would we say about the god of money, which never satisfies?
Maybe the Israelites were not the only people with ridiculous false gods. Maybe they were not the only ones who worshipped gods that offered nothing in return.
When we trade out the Glory of The God (and His love, power, joy, hope, purpose, peace and wisdom) for any other god, could it be anything less than ridiculous?
