Not Forgotten

Nik Ripken travelled deep into China to meet with leaders of the underground church.* The church understood persecution well, but their perspective surprised Ripken. To the Christians, going to prison for their faith was just part of life. They counted it a privilege, comparing it to seminary, because suffering produced maturity and the best Christian teachers in their country filled the prisons with Bible studies.
As Ripken met with this group of church leaders, they begged him to answer their question: “Are there Christians in any other countries?” Ripken said, “Yes. There are millions.” He told them how many churches around the world knew of the persecution, so they remembered the Chinese Christians in their prayers. When the leaders heard this, joy overwhelmed them. They were not forgotten.
As we read through the Psalms, the fear of being forgotten surfaces again and again. Deep in the human soul is a fear of being forgotten. Perhaps, even today, you feel forgotten. Rest assured. God remembers you. He knows you better than you know yourself.
“But I will show you whom you should fear: Fear him who, after your body has been killed, has authority to throw you into hell. Yes, I tell you, fear him. Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten by God. Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows” (Jesus, Luke 12).
Live with joy today. God remembers you.
*I highly recommend Ripken’s book, The Insanity of God. It will rock your world.
