If your father let you down

Written by , Posted in Your Family

I don’t understand what it’s like to have a father who let me down. My dad is a hero to me. He was, and still is, a wonderful dad. But I still have something to say to you, if your father let you down.

If your father abandoned, abused or ignored you, I’m thinking of you this weekend. I’m praying for you. If he hurt you, I’m hurting for you. But I’m also confident that your father’s failings don’t have the final say in your life.

I have several dear friends whose fathers blew it in big, painful ways. These close friends carry scars, but they are not bleeding anymore. They’ve run to God. They believe the constant assurance in their Bibles that God cares for the fatherless. And He’s done an amazing work in them. He’s walked with them through the issues that so many struggle with when their father lets them down.

Forgiveness. Trust. Affection. Love. Discipline. Security. Hope.

These are huge issues, but God is up for the challenge.

Please, don’t give up. Trust your Heavenly Father. Forgive me when I’m not sensitive enough. Ask me for help. Keep moving. You are loved.
